Featured picture candidates ![]() Featured picture candidates are images that the community will vote on, to determine whether or not they will be highlighted as some of the finest on Commons. This page lists the candidates to become featured pictures. The picture of the day images are selected from featured pictures. Old candidates for Featured pictures are listed here. There are also chronological lists of featured pictures: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and current month. Formal thingsNominatingGuidelines for nominatorsPlease read the complete guidelines before nominating. This is a summary of what to look for when submitting and reviewing FP candidates:
Artworks, illustrations, and historical documentsThere are many different types of non-photographic media, including engravings, watercolors, paintings, etchings, and various others. Hence, it is difficult to set hard-and-fast guidelines. However, generally speaking, works can be divided into three types: Those that can be scanned, those that must be photographed, and those specifically created to illustrate a subject. Works that must be photographed include most paintings, sculptures, works too delicate or too unique to allow them to be put on a scanner, and so on. For these, the requirements for photography, below, may be mostly followed; however, it should be noted that photographs which cut off part of the original painting are generally not considered featurable. Works that may be scanned include most works created by processes that allow for mass distribution − for instance, illustrations published with novels. For these, it is generally accepted that a certain amount of extra manipulation is permissible to remove flaws inherent to one copy of the work, since the particular copy – of which hundreds, or even thousands of copies also exist – is not so important as the work itself. Works created to serve a purpose include diagrams, scientific illustrations, and demonstrations of contemporary artistic styles. For these, the main requirement is that they serve their purpose well. Provided the reproduction is of high quality, an artwork generally only needs one of the following four things to be featurable:
Digital restorations must also be well documented. An unedited version of the image should be uploaded locally, when possible, and cross-linked from the file description page. Edit notes should be specified in detail, such as "Rotated and cropped. Dirt, scratches, and stains removed. Histogram adjusted and colors balanced." PhotographsOn the technical side, we have focus, exposure, composition, movement control and depth of field.
On the graphic elements we have shape, volume, color, texture, perspective, balance, proportion, noise, etc.
You will maximise the chances of your nominations succeeding if you read the complete guidelines before nominating. Video and audioPlease nominate videos, sounds, music, etc. at Commons:Featured media candidates. Set nominationsIf a group of images are thematically connected in a direct and obvious way, they can be nominated together as a set. A set should fall under one of the following types:
Adding a new nominationIf you believe that you have found or created an image that could be considered valuable, with appropriate name, quality, image description, categories and licensing, then do the following. Step 1: copy the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box, for example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Your image filename.jpg. Then click on the "create new nomination" button. All single files: For renominations, simply add /2 after the filename. For example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Foo.jpg/2
All set nomination pages should begin "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/", e.g. "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/My Nomination".
Step 3: manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list: Click here, and add the following line to the TOP of the nominations list:
Galleries and FP categories: Please add a gallery page and section heading from the list at Commons FP galleries. Write the code as Page name#Section heading. For example: Optional: if you are not the creator of the image, please notify them using Note: Do not add an 'Alternative' image when you create a nomination. Selecting the best image is part of the nomination process. Alternatives are for a different crop or post-processing of the original image, or a closely related image from the same photo session (limited to 1 per nomination), if they are suggested by voters. VotingEditors whose accounts have at least 10 days and 50 edits can vote. Everybody can vote for their own nominations. Anonymous (IP) votes are not allowed. You may use the following templates:
You may indicate that the image has no chance of success with the template reason - ~~~~, where reason explains why the image is clearly unacceptable as a FP. The template can only be used when there are no support votes other than the one from the nominator. A well-written review helps participants (photographers, nominators and reviewers) improve their skills by providing insight into the strengths and weaknesses of a picture. Explain your reasoning, especially when opposing a candidate (which has been carefully selected by the author/nominator). English is the most widely understood language on Commons, but any language may be used in your review. A helpful review will often reference one or more of the criteria listed above. Unhelpful reasons for opposing include:
Remember also to put your signature (~~~~). Featured picture delisting candidatesOver time, featured picture standards change. It may be decided that for some pictures which were formerly "good enough", this is no longer the case. This is for listing an image which you believe no longer deserves to be a featured picture. For these, vote:
This can also be used for cases in which a previous version of an image was promoted to FP, but a newer version of the image has been made and is believed to be superior to the old version, e.g. a newly edited version of a photo or a new scan of a historical image. In particular, it is not intended for replacing older photos of a particular subject with newer photos of the same subject, or in any other case where the current FP and the proposed replacement are essentially different images. For these nominations, vote:
If you believe that some picture no longer meets the criteria for FP, you can nominate it for delisting, copying the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box: In the new delisting nomination page just created you should include:
After that, you have to manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list. As a courtesy, leave an informative note on the talk page(s) of the original creator, uploader(s), and nominator with a link to the delisting candidate. can be used for this purpose. Featured picture candidate policyGeneral rules
Featuring and delisting rulesA candidate will become a featured picture in compliance with following conditions:
The delisting rules are the same as those for FPs, with voting taking place over the same time period. The rule of the 5th day is applied to delisting candidates that have received no votes to delist, other than that of the proposer, by day 5. The FPCBot handles the vote counting and closing in most cases, current exceptions are candidates containing multiple versions of the image as well as FPXed and withdrawn nominations. Any experienced user may close the requests not handled by the bot. For instructions on how to close nominations, see Commons:Featured picture candidates/What to do after voting is finished. Also note that there is a manual review stage between when the bot has counted the votes and before the nomination is finally closed by the bot; this manual review can be done by any user familiar with the voting rules. Above all, be politePlease don't forget that the image you are judging is somebody's work. Avoid using phrases like "it looks terrible" and "I hate it". If you must oppose, please do so with consideration. Also remember that your command of English might not be the same as someone else's. Choose your words with care. Happy judging… and remember… all rules can be broken. See also

Info Gold-blotch grouper (Epinephelus costae), Cabo de Palos, Spain. This species is a more southern species than the more common and well-known dusky grouper. In fact, in the Atlantic it is no longer found north of Portugal, while in the south it reaches as far as Angola. In the Mediterranean Sea it was long much more common along the coasts of the southern regions, but, since the mid-2000s, its diffusion has increased significantly even in the more northern areas. It lives in a depth between 10–80 metres (33–262 ft) and usually reaches a length of 80 centimetres (31 in) and a weight of 8 kilograms (18 lb). Note: we have no FPs of the species Epinephelus costae. c/u/n by Poco a poco (talk) 06:17, 27 August 2025 (UTC)

Support Let's step outside the little style bubble that is FPC for a moment. This is a great compo in showing off the hat and the texture of his garments while placing them in a context with ambience. This sort or angles are often used when you don't want the model distracting from the pieces (here the hat). You certainly don't need a full frontal to get the vibe from the event. Info We have... a fair few Featured Pictures of the CN Tower. But I think this offers something different; it is from the angle that shows the most of the spire, starting just above the Rogers Centre, and thus gives the most comprehensive view of the tower. It backgrounds the tower with other buildings, including the still-under-construction CIBC Square II. Oh, and it's 250 megapixels, so you can see the guidewires, small windows in the shaft above the viewing platform, and other aspects of the construction that aren't evident at normal resolutions. Weak support It's good but it's not one of your best. I see from the EXIF that ISO 6400 was used and although I'm sure this was unavoidable, it does show here. Detail on the bird is mainly good although the beak is a little bit unsharp. The noise is clear to me though, and the noise in the background, although it looks normal when zoomed in to full, has given the bokeh a somewhat blotchy impression at smaller sizes. I still support because it is the best image of this bird on Commons. Cmao20 (talk) 12:39, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

Comment I liken the idea behind the composition, and I regard this photo as having potential, but in its current form it is just too noisy for FP Cmao20 (talk) 12:30, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- It's a photo made in 1991. Theklan (talk) 15:23, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- The Exif has this as taken with a camera introduced in 2012, so it's a little misleading. Either this photographer photographed a paper print of the photo, or used one of those add-ons you can use to digitize film. It would be great to know a bit more about how this was made, such as what camera was originally used. --Cart (talk) 18:11, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- Looking at the original, and then to the EXIF data, I would assume that in the digitalization process they added information with something like Lightroom, because there are other aspects that make no sense, as the date (2021, when this factory closed before 1998), and the use of Photoshop for an scanned image. Theklan (talk) 18:32, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- Photoshop has the bad habit to add itself and some information to any file we edit with it, even if we just change the compression or format of a scanned image. But I would just guess that they took a large print of the photo (not the original slide or negative) and digitized it by taking a photo of it with a Nikon D800 and a 60mm F2.8 lens. It would indeed be nice to know more about the camera etc. which was used to take the original photo. But we must keep in mind that many gallerists, collectors and museum people often totally neglect this kind of information (and generally understand almost nothing about the technical aspects of photography besides buzzwords like “taken with a Leica”) because they consider not the slide, negative, or file as the original artwork, but the print, and meticulously state its dimensions, the paper, etc. … even if it is just a cheap print from the drugstore. – Aristeas (talk) 18:55, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

Support We have relatively few pre-digital area FPs. This one is good. Yann (talk) 16:23, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
Support Impressive minimalist composition which – together with the muted colours – reminds me of some paintings from the New Objectivity movement. At the first glance you would wish for less foreground and more sky, but the division of the image into two equal parts is the point of the composition: it emphasises the tremendous size of the sugar beet hill and compresses the sky to give the image a slightly oppressive, intense mood. – Aristeas (talk) 18:46, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- If you wise more sky, there's another one, but I don't like the composition so much: File:Azucarera Alavesa- Instalazioen ikuspegi orokorra (ELDE20230109458).jpg Theklan (talk) 19:26, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
Support This excellent analog photograph uses minimalist composition and muted colors to highlight the sugar beet pile and compress the sky. Its tactile, pre-digital quality adds rare historic and aesthetic value. -- Radomianin (talk) 20:24, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
Support I admire the juxtaposition of the mill billowing steam and the huge sugar beet pile. The picture appears to have been duplicated digitally using a technique similar to one I've used for slides using a copy stand. I'd ignore all of the exif as irrelevant. Support Nice quality and good sharpness on the heads of the snakes, plus a good composition. We always create a new subgallery for the family, even if it will only include one picture so far. I've done that for you. If the picture passes, the new subgallery will need to be created, but I can handle that too. Cmao20 (talk) 16:17, 25 August 2025 (UTC)

Weak oppose Pretty trees and nice quality but in my view not really outstanding enough for FP, sorry. The sky is featureless and dull, and there are a lot of untidy objects at either side of the rails. Although the composition is fine, I struggle to see a centred composition of railway tracks as particularly great or as something that stands out. Cmao20 (talk) 16:12, 25 August 2025 (UTC)

Weak oppose Really sorry but I don't see what separates this one from a good QI. The picture is high quality and illustrates the ship well but the ship does not appear a particularly outstanding subject - it's a container ship like many others - and I miss an outstanding composition or excellent light (it's a bit grey and flat) Cmao20 (talk) 16:10, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
Comment The Happiness Bulker represents more than just a ship. It is a symbol of how the world trades today and (hopefully) prospers. Somewhere between 80 – 90% of global trade involves commercial ship transport. The Happiness is a good example. Look here to see the system at work.
- The Olympic Peninsula of Washington State USA has trees in quantity as a renewable resource. Countries in the Far East have manufacturing capability but lack lumber in quantity to process. This ship connects the two. Eventually, finished furniture will be sent to market, also by commercial ship.
- Yes, this image was taken on a dull day - common weather in the Pacific Northwest. From your comments, I did implement some minor tonal tweaking that I think were helpful. --GRDN711 (talk) 01:22, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

Info A busy morning in the Gothenburg inlet. By European standards, Gothenburg is a relatively young city, founded by Sweden in the 17th century to secure a port on the west coast. Built at the mouth of the Göta älv, at the time Denmark surrounded the city on both sides, and the fortress Nya Älvsborg (visible in the background) was constructed for its protection. Also prominent in the background is Skandiahamnen, with its container terminal—evidence of how the port has gradually expanded outward from the city center. Today, Gothenburg is still Sweden’s largest and most vital port. I believe the old prime lens paired with a large sensor does an excellent job of separating the scene’s elements—keeping everything sharp and in focus, while avoiding the compressed perspective often associated with zoom lenses. As a subtle nod to Gothenburg-based Hasselblad and Fuji, I chose the 24x65 format (the XPAN format they introduced in 1998). Info On my recent trip to Stratford, Ontario, I made a couple attempts at producing enormous panoramas of notable architecture. This one is 75 megapixels, a little more than 3x the native resolution of my camera, and I think the quality is wonderful. As for what it depicts... the Perth County Courthouse was completed in 1887 based on a design by George F Durand. It is adorned by numerous terracotta relief by Henry Plasschaert, who later became a professor at the School of Applied Art in Pennsylvania. - Still a small arc at the bottom. I realize the poster doesn't seem to be exactly flush, but given that we've already cropped out the white spaces that normally border such posters, it should be one or the other. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 12:51, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

Comment - Foreground foliage is mildly distracting. Not really evident at thumbnail size, but it blocks part of a leg. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 03:16, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- It is barely touching the bottom of the foot and in nature it's normal to have foliage so I don't think it's distracting -- Giles Laurent (talk) 08:45, 23 August 2025 (UTC)

- That works at thumb, but I'm not convinced at full resolution. If it were merely removed from the foot area, would that work? — Chris Woodrich (talk) 19:28, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Giles Laurent, and thanks for the ping on my talk page. I was referring to the area where the former foliage was being out of focus compared to the remainder of the grass to its sides. That being said, I may be looking too much at specific details; unless you knew that was there in the first place, it is easy not to notice it. As such, I'd like to...

Info This is an unusual D&R, but in my own opinion, the pano is better of the two. If I had made and uploaded the pano originally (rather than as result of suggestion on nom), I would have nominated only the pano to begin with. I believe it didn't get a fair chance due to much of the voting having already taken place before it was nom'd as alt. So here I give it a fairer, second chance. (Original nomination)

- Gallery: Commons:Featured pictures/Sports#Individual sports (I am not sure which specific gallery to categorise professional wrestling in, as it intersects both sport and entertainment)
Info created by KevMullen23 – uploaded by KevMullen23 – nominated by CeltBrowne -- I am nominating this image for several reasons. Firstly, it is technically proficient in its own right, shot by a high-quality Sony ILCE-7M3 camera. However, and more importantly, this is an extremely difficult image to capture: In boxing and professional wrestling, the subjects are usually partially obscured by the ring ropes. The photographer in this instance has managed to capture the subject in a brief time when this was not the case. This is the type of shot a photographer works all night to get during a professional wrestling show. Thirdly, this image was taken during the subject's retirement. This was the photographer's last opportunity to capture the subject as a performer. This is a once-in-a-career shot of the subject. The photographer has managed to capture the subject at their apex, in full retirement costume. Therefore, the image is both technically excellent and also extremely poignant as it captures the subject at an extremely significant and emotional time in their life. This is an extremely rare image to have, and we at the Wikimedia Commons should be grateful the photographer, KevMullen23, has made it available to us. CeltBrowne (talk) 20:14, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

Support Having done my own attempt at wrestling photography earlier this month, I appreciate how difficult it is to get good shots unless you are right next to the ring. Although her eyes are slightly OOF, I think this is an excellent example of a challenging subject, and it does a great job highlighting the exuberant keyfabe that usually comes with the sport. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 03:20, 23 August 2025 (UTC)

Voting period ends on 31 Aug 2025 at 10:20:01
Info Exterior of Nymphenburg Palace, Munich; photo created, uploaded and nominated by Richard Bartz (original nomination). As discussed here, we have two almost identical FPs, this one and File:Image-Schloss Nymphenburg Munich CC edit3.jpg. The latter is actually an edited version of this photo, both FPs are very similar, so we should delist one of them. The discussion has shown a clear tendency to delist this version: it is slightly underexposed and appears less polished. Furthermore, from today’s perspective, the nomination that led to the FP promotion is somewhat weak (it is confused, contains vote counting errors, comments from anonymous users, etc.), while the nomination of the other version is fine. – Aristeas (talk) 10:20, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

Whoever reviews and closes the nomination, please just check the votes and update the template to FPC-delist-results-reviewed, similar to what we do with normal FP nominations. FPCBot should now be able to handle delist nominations completely on its own, so there is no need anymore to process the delisting by hand. Actually I am eager to see if/that the bot does everything right (you know, the proof of the pudding … ;–). Thank you! – Aristeas (talk) 19:11, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

Info Corkscrew tentacle sea anemone (Radianthus doreensis), Anilao, Philippines. It's found in Japan, and south to the waters of New Guinea and northern Australia. This species is commonly found at depths of 5 metres (16 ft) or less in muddy bottoms, and is commonly seen without fish present. This species remains at the surface of the sediment, with the column buried and can retract entirely into the sediment. c/u/n Poco a poco (talk) 06:08, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

Support Arguably the white balance is a little bit towards the cyan side but I honestly love the effect it has here - such a majestic panorama and you get the impression of the crisp, clear, cold air by the sheer blueness of the sky. Cmao20 (talk) 00:31, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

Oppose Outstanding motif, but technical quality is below the FP-bar. There are too many artefacts in the sky. In addition, the potential to add geographical information to the image (coordinates, annotations) has not been exploited rudimentally. --Milseburg (talk) 12:51, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

Oppose I'm sorry but the level of detail is not up with many of the already existing FPs in the gallery and there are no other elements (e.g. catch) that make it more interesting. Not enough for me to get the star. Poco a poco (talk) 16:07, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

- Poco is spot on. You need to look closer Tisha Mukherjee. There are several excellent FPs, such as this one, that provide an FP benchmark.

Weak oppose Really sorry. I find the motif interesting but the surroundings less than excellent. This kind of weather where snow is starting to melt and is dotted around in messy patches on the ground is rarely appealing. Overall it's not an outstanding composition for me because the background detracts from the image. Cmao20 (talk) 18:49, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
Weak support Agree that the partially melted snow makes the composition a bit messy. But after three years of occasional cemetery photography (my typical stroll goes through a cemetery) I know it is often very difficult to get a nice clear photo of a grave; most often you have either dark shadows or harsh sunlight (or an unfortunate mixture); therefore I appreciate that the winter day with the snow shows all details of that interesting grave of a very interesting author. – Aristeas (talk) 13:20, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

Oppose Sorry, but I'm not impressed. There are just a few people standing in front of an entrance. I've seen more people standing outside the church at Easter because not everyone could fit in. Even without the people, it wouldn't have a wow effect for me, even though the portal is beautiful. -- Petro Stelte (talk) 15:10, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
Comment Thank you for the nomination, Peter! These COVID-19 lockdowns only happened a few years ago, but already feel so distant. I've compiled a few images from that period: there's plenty of fear and emptiness in there, but I find images like the above particularly interesting, as they show how we worked around the restrictions in place to find confort in old habits --Julesvernex2 (talk) 17:32, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
Neutral Wouldn't be upset to see it promoted but it's not one of Julesvernex2's best photos in my opinion. It is a good document of those unpleasant times when we were prevented from doing so much, and the image quality is very high as usual for this author, but I miss anything outstanding in terms of composition. Cmao20 (talk) 17:34, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
Support --Uoaei1 (talk) 18:01, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
Oppose Sorry, but as a standalone photo this doesn't work. Even with the caption, it doesn't look that significant to me. The people are still standing in a bunch, like if they were a group casually pausing in front of the church. The things we remember from the pandemic are the social distancing and empty places; none of that is present here. With their back turned to the photographer, we can only clearly see one masked person. --Cart (talk) 13:33, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
Weak support Impresses me because of the contrast between the bright, almost monochrome beauty of the portal, the dark indicated beauty of the interior, and the colourful mundane clothing of the people. Of course as a document of the hot phase of the pandemic, some others of Jules’ shots are more impressive. – Aristeas (talk) 15:39, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
Oppose Sorry but there's not really much wow factor here for me.--Peulle (talk) 07:46, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

Closing a featured picture promotion request
The bot
Note that the description below is for manual closure, this is mostly not needed anymore as there exists a bot (FPCBot) that counts the votes and handles the process below. However after the bot has counted the votes a manual review step is used to make sure the count is correct before the bot again picks up the work.
Manual procedure
Any experienced user may close requests.
- In Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line with a space first)
(for example see Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:The Bridge (August 2013).jpg). See also FPC-results-reviewed.
- Also edit the title of the candidate image template and add after the image tag featured or not featured – for example:
:File:XXXXX.jpg
becomes
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, featured === - Save your edit.
- If it is featured:
- Add the picture to the list of the four most recently featured pictures of an appropriate gallery of Commons:Featured pictures, list as the first one and delete the last one, so that the number is four again.
- Also add the picture to the appropriate gallery and section of Commons:Featured pictures, list. Click on the most appropriate link beneath where you just added it as one of the four images. An image should only appear ONE time in the galleries. After a successful nomination, the image can be placed in several of the Featured pictures categories.
- Add the template to the image description page.
- If it was an alternative image or part of a set nomination, use the com-nom parameter. For example, if File:Foo.jpg was promoted at Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Bar.jpg, use
- If the image is already featured on another Wikipedia, just add featured=1 to the Assessments template. For instance becomes
- Add the picture to the chronological list of featured pictures. Put it in the gallery using this format: File:xxxxx.jpg|# Headline<br>created by xxxxx, uploaded by xxxxx, nominated by xxxxx
- The # should be replaced by 1 for the first image nominated that month, and counts up after that. Have a look at the other noms on that page for examples.
- You may simplify this if multiple things were done by the same user. E.g.: File:xxxxx.jpg|# Headline<br>created, uploaded, and nominated by xxxxx
- Add == FP promotion ==
File:XXXXX.jpg to the talk page of the nominator. For set nominations, use:
Set Promoted to FP
<gallery>
File:XXXXXX.jpg
File:XXXXXX.jpg
</gallery>
YYYYY, using the names of the set files instead of the XXXXXX and the title of the set instead of YYYYY. - Add == FP promotion ==
File:XXXXX.jpg to the talk page of the user who has uploaded the image, if that user is not the same as the nominator. - Add == FP promotion ==
File:XXXXX.jpg to the talk page of the creator, if the author is a different Commons user than nominator and uploader.
- As the last step (whether the image is featured or not; including FPXed, FPDed and withdrawn nominations), open Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list, click on [edit], and find the transclusion of the nomination you've just finished closing. It will be of the form:

Copy it to the bottom of Commons:Featured picture candidates/Log/August 2025), save that page, and remove it from the candidate list.
Closing a delisting request
- In Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):

(for example see Commons:Featured picture candidates/removal/File:Ensifera ensifera (22271195865).jpg) - Also edit the title of the delisting candidate image template and add after the image tag
delisted or not delisted
For example:
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg === becomes === :File:XXXXX.jpg, delisted === - Move the actual template from Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list to the bottom of the actual month page on Commons:Featured picture candidates/Log/August 2025.
- If the outcome was not delisted, stop here. If it is delisted:
- Remove the picture from Commons:Featured pictures, list and any subpages.
- Edit the picture's description as follows:
- In the Assessments template on the image description page, change featured=1 to featured=2 (do not change anything related to its status in other featured picture processes). If the image description page uses the old Featured picture template, replace it by .
- Remove the image from all categories beginning with "Featured [pictures]" (example: Featured night photography, Featured pictures from Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, Featured pictures of Paris).
- Remove the "Commons quality assessment" claim (P6731) "Wikimedia Commons featured picture" from the picture's Structured data.
- Add a delisting-comment to the original entry in chronological list of featured pictures in bold-face, e. g. delisted 2007-07-19 (1-6) with (1-6) meaning 1 keep and 6 delist votes (change as appropriate). The picture must not be removed from the chronological list.
- If this is a Delist and Replace, the delisting and promotion must both be done manually. To do the promotion, follow the steps in the above section. Note that the assessment tag on the file page and the promotion tag on the nominator's talk page won't pick up the /replace subpage that these nominations use.
Manual archiving of a withdrawn nomination
- In Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
In the occasion that the FPCbot will not mark withdrawn nominations with a "to be reviewed" template and put them in Category:Featured picture candidates awaiting closure review just like if they were on the usual list, put the following "no" template:
- Also edit the title of the candidate image template and add after the image tag
not featured
For example:
:File:XXXXX.jpg
becomes
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, not featured === - Save your edit.
- Open Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list, click on [edit], and find the transclusion of the nomination. It will be of the form:

Copy it to the bottom of Commons:Featured picture candidates/Log/August 2025), save that page, and remove it from the candidate list.
